The help that the BSB provides is often tailored to individual cases. Many people find that at some stage in their career they are forced through redundancy or through specific circumstances that they need to re-train. The BSB can offer support and either grants or loans to help Old Blues retrain or find a new career.

I left Christ’s Hospital in 2009 and went to UWE, Bristol to complete my undergraduate degree in Law. I graduated in 2012 with a First-Class degree. After I completed my degree, I wanted to continue my studies and complete the Legal Practice Course but did not have the financial resources to fund the course myself. I approached the BSB at this time to see if they could help me with the costs of the course. The BSB generously gave me a grant and an interest-free loan which allowed me to concentrate on my studies part-time whilst working as a paralegal in a niche family law practice to gain experience at the same time without worrying about the financial cost of qualifying as a solicitor. Without the support of the BSB, I would have been unable to continue my studies straight after graduating and qualify as a solicitor. I qualified as a solicitor in March 2016 and have recently started working at the UK’s largest family law firm. Since qualifying, I have been able to pay off my loan in monthly instalments and have now become a member of BSB myself.
